Cycleway 4 was started over 10 years ago as Cycle Superhighway 4, planned as a direct route along the Thames on the south side. Most has been completed over the decade since and it now runs from London Bridge to close to Woolwich. This ride will go out and back probably getting as far as the recently completed stretch past Charlton. May have time to look at the work going on to complete the route to Woolwich. Interesting to see the different styles of cycle lane along the way and to consider if this type of cycleway is likely to encourage more cycling, especially by women and children. This is a flat 10 mile ride with only a short stretch in Greenwich on quiet non-segregated roads. Bruce leading.

Riders of all ages are welcome on Healthy Rides but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Same for “adults at risk”. Always give way to pedestrians and to other cyclists so all path users feel safe. If you cannot make a ride, please cancel so that someone else can take the place. These rides are part of a regular programme of Saturday rides, more information at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/.

Looks at key Cycleway along south side of Thames. Includes recent extension through Charlton. Will consider which bits will help encourage cycling; which bits are not so good. Come and join us.

Mostly segregated cycle lane. Short bits of quiet road.

Several stops at points of interest plus coffee break half way.

Just yourself and your bike.

First-timers welcome!
