This ride is for all those thinking about, or already signed up to the Saints Foundation Bike Bike Challenge 2018, or those who are just looking for a longer ride with like-minded cyclists. More information about this charity cycle ride if interested is here: http://saintsfoundation.co.uk/big-bike-challenge-2/

This ride is lead by British Cycling trained ride leaders, the route is 30 miles leaving Saints Stadium at 10am to The Milbury’s on The South Downs. On the day we will be splitting everyone into steadier/ faster groups to make sure everyone gets round comfortably i.e. faster riders don’t think they’ll freeze and beginners do not feel intimidated – please feel free to contact me via the message facility.

There will some hills on route, but nothing too strenuous and will be riding on tarred roads, and is a mix of Urban, Country Lanes and a few Main Roads.

The route will take us over The Itchen Bridge, and then climb out of the City to West End, soon we will be on country lanes, passing through Horton Heath, Upham, and our second climb of the ride up to The Milbury’s. We will stop for a brief rest to look at the views and regroup, before a long descent towards Bishops Waltham. The return route will take us through Durley and around Botley to Hedge End, then the last climb will take us up to High Town and back into Southampton. A nice long descent will take us down to Woolston and back over the Itchen Bridge to The St Mary’s Stadium for around 12:30pm.

You may want to wear suitable clothing and a helmet is optional. A light, waterproof jacket is almost essential for the British climate. Otherwise just bring something to drink, spare inner tubes, tyre levers and pump. We are unlikely to stop for refreshments, so you may like to pack a cereal bar or similar as emergency rations.

If you need to come by car and want to park at the Stadium, please park in the NORTH car park. This is pay and display car park.
