Starting point

Midlothian
EH22 2AW

We start at Dalkeith High School Campus and head over Elphinstone Hill (a nice wee warm up) and then to New Winton, Boggs Holding, Samuelston, the Saltouns and then returning along the entire length of the Old Railway line (nice and dry just now!) via our coffee stop at Rosearista to Crossgatehall, back on the road and down to the start point. The ride is 25 miles and 1171' of climbing (equivalent to 3 1/2 times round Arthurs seat). It will be a steady ride and no one will be left behind.

Route rating

0 stars (0) Reviews

A Mid - East - Mid route from Dalkeith to Elphinstone, New Winton, Boggs Holding, Samuelston returning via the Saltouns and the Pencaitland Old Railway line back to the High School.

We will be cycling on mainly quieter roads, shared paths and a short section up the hill to Elphinstone that can be a bit busier. On the shared paths we will likely pass walkers, dogs and horses and maybe tiny humans on balance bikes, so please stay safe and keep other users safe.

We will have a stop for coffee at Rosearista on the way back (about 8 miles before the end of the ride).

Please bring the following with you: Bike in good and safe working order and well maintained, a helmet, spare inner-tube / puncture repair kit, a bike lock if you have one, layers (including a waterproof incase of rain), card or cash payment if you want to buy anything at our café stop. We don't leave anyone behind but if you find yourself in a position of being unable to continue with the ride for any reason, for example in the event of a puncture / mechanical that cannot be fixed at the roadside, then you need a plan for getting back home. And of course you will need a water bottle or two, some snacks just incase we dont stop for coffee (for what ever reason) and loads of chat!

We never leave anyone behind
