SDR where it all began:200th anniversary ride

This a 15 mile undulating route to the start of the Stockton Darlington railway . We start and finish at Bishop Auckland so it’s urban but quickly get out to California (anyone for a Brian Wilson song?), then we arrive at Witton Park where the SDR began at 7am on 27th Sepe1825. See the Etherley incline and marvel at this incredible technology: the start of the modern railway. We then get into Durham’s countryside pass Windhill before carousing to Ramshaw where we join the Haggerleases branch line. Through west Auckland and we are soon back at Bishop.
