Upminster

Explore south of Havering in a mixture of roads, parks and country paths.  From Upminster Park we pass Hornchurch Stadium before heading up to the church which gave Hornchurch it's name.  After crossing the lake in Harrow Lodge we head towards Brettons Outdoor Centre and on to Beam Parklands.  Then it's back on the road and onto Rainham Marshes for our halfway stop and homemade cake.  Leaving the RSPB we pass the Purfleet Royal Gunpowder Magazine before turning away from the river for a short section alternating road and paths.  We cross the A13 and join the Mardyke Valley to Davy Down.  We leave the path and head back to Upminster through Ockendon and past The Thames Chase Forest. Please note that we only recommend using a road bikes with a wider tyre (25mm or above) on this ride due to the surface on some sections of the route. You don’t have to be the next Bradley Wiggins, but you’ll need to know your way around a bike and be fairly fit to take part in our Challenging rides. If you’re comfortable riding with other people and fancy a fresh challenge, these rides are perfect for you. They start at around twenty miles long, and are paced at between 11 and 12 miles an hour.
