You really don't need a guide for this one!.... We start in the carpark for Yatton Railway Station. We'll head south along the famous Strawberry Line - retracing the path of the old trainline that hauled strawberries from the fields of Cheddar into Bristol for consumption by the masses. The route tracks through the countryside, past several bits of remnant infrastructure, and ducking through a couple of Thatchers Cider's orchards. The penultimate village is Axbridge, complete with 15th century hunting lodge, and reservoir, usually humming with sailing activity The line spits us out in Cheddar,. We'll take a short trip across town to the bottom of Cheddar Gorge, aiming for our midway coffee & cake stop - but if food is your thing , now is also the time to investigate the many fudge, ice cream and cheese shops purveying their local wares. A BIKE LOCK WOULD BE A GOOD THING TO BRING!..... Cheddar is a busy tourist village!. With blood caffeine levels duly adjusted we turn around and retrace our route. All in - we'll cover 24 miles.... BUT..... this is an old railway line - THERE IS VERY LITTLE CLIMBING. (Sky classifies any ride over 20miles in distance as "challenging"... but they really don't come much easier than this). There are some short stretches on quiet roads, some crossings of busy roads - and also usually other walkers/cyclists/dogs to navigate around - it probably isn't suitable for younger children. Bike-wise - hybrid or a mountain bike good - I've seen folk do this on roadies - but there's a few rough gravel sections - and we'll be pacing at 10-11mph. Finally - there is a strong fun, social element to this ride. If the weather looks grim I'll postpone (>24hrs ahead).
