Sweating it to Cirencester

After the first three miles of the A40, we'll turn up the Dowdeswell Hill and climb to the top. From there, we'll take the lovely undulating route to Withington and then turn up towards Chedworth, taking in the steep road through the woods. When we reach the top, we'll have a well deserved 5 mile slight downhill run all the way to Cirecncester where we'll refuel before our return through the villages and lanes on the other side of the A417. At Elkstone, we'll detour through Cowley to cut out the hideously dangerous corners around the Green Dragon, and then descend back into Charlton Kings down the Cirencester Hill.
Despite the two challenging hills, this is a great round trip of around 30 miles.

This is a fairly challenging route with two quite gruelling uphills and a couple of fast downhills. Apart from the start and end, this is a fairly quiet ride, road wise.

Most of the ride will be along quiet country lanes although the start and end of the ride has to be along major roads. However, it is a fairly early start, so should avoid the worst of the traffic.

We'll definitely stop for tea and cakes in Cirencester after the gruelling hills! We'll also wait at the top of hills and I'll definitely be stopping halfway up at least one of them!

Helmets are advisable, as are lights as we'll be setting off early.
