Dorcan Recreation Centre

If you're fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour. A steady ride of just under 10 miles incorporating mostly cycle paths, which takes us by Swindon's very own "Nessie", who resides in the Coleview Play Park, and up onto the fantastic White Hart Bridge. There's a small climb up over the busy roundabout - over the A420 and under the A419; but your climb is rewarded with amazing views of the Ridgeway. After edging past this popular shopping district, we intersect the path leading to the nearby Gablecross Police Station, then on towards the town of South Marston and the peaceful countryside. Pass by Oxford University's new Bodleian Library storage facility, the entrance to Oxleaze Woods (part of Great Western Community Forest), a popular hotel/health club, the new under-construction SEVOR solar farm, and finally through Nightingale Woods with its trim trail, bird hide and Dog Dip, finally ending up at Roves Farm for refreshments. If you're lucky, you may meet one of the Roves Farm llamas! After which, we will retrace our ride to Dorcan Recreation Complex, perhaps in time for a swim, or to watch a netball match in the dome.
