We will start out through Dewsbury then Ravensthorpe to join the Mirfield Greenway and head towards Colne Bridge. We will be crossing the A62 at Bradley.
From there we will take the Birkby Greenway before joining the Huddersfield Broad Canal for the last mile and a half to Aspley Marina.
Return will be by the reverse route, with a twist.

This Sunday’s ride will leave the Leggers Inn at Dewsbury and using a combination of public roads, greenways and canal banks will arrive ten miles later at the Aspley Marina in Huddersfield. We may take a tour past the Huddersfield Town football ground on the way back. Notwithstanding passing the football ground I think you will find this an interesting route with pleasant views along the way. This ride is about as flat as it gets because you are in West Yorkshire there are still some ‘undulations’ along the way.

We will travel along a combination of public roads, greenways and canal towpaths. We will encounter a reasonable amount of traffic on the road sections so riders will need to be confident in those situations. Mountain bikes or gravel bikes with off-road tyres are probably best suited to this ride. Road tyres may struggle in places due to the last 1.5 miles to the marina, being canal towpath.

There will be a toilet stop at Aspley Marina assuming they have now re-opened for public use.

Helmets are mandatory on all Kirklees Riders outings. Please bring a spare inner tube suitable for the tyres on the bike you are riding. Regardless of the easing of Covid-related restrictions I’m sure I speak for most, if not all of us, when I say that the simple rules we have adopted for our group rides should remain in place. Therefore please ensure you continue to bring the anti-bacterial agents necessary to keep both yourself and your fellow riders safe throughout the ride. If you or any members of your family are showing COVID 19 symptoms, or self-isolating, please stay at home. I would also remind you that this is not a guided ride and each participant remains responsible for their own actions or omissions at all times.

We never leave anyone behind
