The Bath Arms Hotel & Pub, Horningsham, Wiltshire Plenty of on road parking around the green in front of the pub

Breeze Bike Rides in West Wiltshire A fairly lumpy 20 mile ride with a tea and cake stop around the half way mark at the Three Horseshoes pub in Chapmanslade. This ride is mainly on small quiet country lanes and through the private estate of Longleat.  There is a miniscule moment of traffic on the A362 at Lanes End as we cross over the road and head to Corsley. Starting from The Bath Arms Hotel in the pretty village of Horningsham, we will head east through the village towards Longbridge Deverill; there is a short steep climb up to the village school before a longer gradual climb out of the village.  At the first junction we'll turn right towards Maiden Bradley and along approx. 2miles of undulating road before turning right again and riding downhill straight into the Longleat Estate. From there it's all downhill to the big house, before turning left and winding our way uphill around the estate towards Lanes End.  From the big house, it’s a steady uphill on very quiet, small lanes around the back of the safari park and up towards Lanes End and Corsley. More quiet lanes through Corsley to the church before we turn left and head towards Chapmanslade and the tea stop at the Three Horseshoes. After a reviving cuppa and we will retrace our steps back through Corsley and the back of Longleat with a small detour around the edge of the lion enclosure with the hope of spotting the hippo's or gorilla.  Then back past the big house before the slow climb back to the Bath Arms and the end. This route is fairly lumpy with a several long inclines which require low gears and patience.  It's not flat but with the right encouragement and the knowledge that I'll wait for you, I think it's really do-able.  It's a lovely ride with hardly any traffic and a great way to explore Longleat on 2 wheels.   It’s suitable for those who have some cycling experience but would like to go a little bit further and build up ability and confidence on the road without tackling big climbs.   I’ll be aiming to ride around 8-10miles per hour, however, riders of all speeds are welcome as long as you are happy to ride at the group pace (which will be governed by the slowest rider). This is a quiet route but the lanes are mucky at this time of year with leaves and farm debris so attention to road surface as you ride is a must! Please remember to bring a well-maintained bike, puncture spares, a waterproof, a drink, a small lock & CAKE MONEY!! Please contact me if you require any more information about the ride.  Looking forward to seeing you all there.   Caroline 07779 121228
