Starting point

Hampshire
PO7 6JZ

This is a challenging ride and is not suitable for beginners or casual cyclists. It is aimed at those who want/need to start/improve on hills and extending routes. It is a scenic route with a stop at Compton Stores/café at 14ish miles. There is an opportunity for another stop (if required) in Rowlands Castle at about 20 miles.

Meeting at Kidmore Lane we travel from Denmead through Clanfield using country lanes. We then travel through beautiful countryside to Chalton, Finchdean and Compton for our planned stop. We travel on past West Marden and Walderton to Westbourne then return through Rowlands Castle and Horndean retracing our route back to Denmead.

It is a hilly route, but nothing too extreme. There are a few challenges but they are short. Bring plenty of water and snacks in case you run out of steam.

You will not be left on your own at the back, there will always be someone with you and you go up the hills any way you can, even if you need to walk. The scenery is worth the effort and there are quite a few downs and long flattish stretches!

Route rating

0 stars (0) Reviews

An enjoyable and scenic but challenging ride through the Hampshire and West Sussex country lanes and B roads. Harder and slightly longer than Compton via Horndean.

Country lanes and B roads

Stopping at Compton Stores and Tea Room at about 14 miles

Wear helmets, fit bike lights, bring water, spare inner tube for YOUR bike, jacket in case of rain, wear high viz clothing that you can peel off if you get warm. Bring some money for refreshments.

This is not a route for novice riders. It is a challenging route for more experienced riders
