This is a fundraising ride from Hull Minster via the Humber Bridge then on to the beautiful Beverley Minster before heading south across the Humber Bridge and onto Grimsby Minster and then returning to the finish back at Hull Minster.
The route is along quiet country lanes, B roads and, on occasions, main roads with great views from the Humber Bridge. It is generally a flat ride but there is a sharp hill on the outward journey as the ride leaves Barton.
The roads are generally in good condition with a few potholes here and there out in the countryside but the road in some parts out of Hull to Beverley is a bit rough and bumpy.
The start will be at Simples Café, Hull where pre-ride refreshments will be available. (
https://www.facebook.com/Simplescafehull/ ) which is situated in Trinity Square in the Old town with great views of Hull Minster. There are a few cycle racks located close by.
As the distance from Hull Minster to Beverley Minster is quite short there will be no refreshment break so the ride will circumnavigate the Minster before heading south towards the Humber Bridge for the journey to Grimsby. Riders may stop if they wish to take in the site and view the Minster if they so desire.
On reaching the Humber Bridge the riders, if they wish, may take a refreshment break before continuing on. There are also toilet facilities close to the Tourist Information Point.
A refreshment break can take place at the Natural Planet Express Cafe in Grimsby before making the return journey
There is no cost to this ride but it is hoped that riders will make a donation to the fundraising pot. Money raised will be equally shared between Hull4Heroes (
https://www.hull4heroes.com) and Sarah Robinson who has been selected to take part in the Invictus Games 2018. (
https://www.invictusgames2018.org/the-games/the-story/) in 5 events one of which is cycling. At present Sarah only has a £125 Halfords bike. It is hoped, that through various fundraising events, enough can be raised to allow Sarah to purchase a more competitive bike.
Sarah is a serving British Army Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineer from Hull. She is at present attached to 147 Field Company REME which has detachments in Hull. Sarah’s story;
