Leave Hike & Bike Hub, walk across Douglas Bridge to join Stirling Street. Take first exit left at roundabout on to A7. Go straight ahead at roundabout along Magdala Terrace until after the car jetwash, joining the footpath before the 40mph sign. Stay on the path until the entrance to Torwoodlee Golf Club. Turn left and follow the road through the golf course, going straight ahead and into the estate. Follow this road until the “private road” for the house comes into view – turn right here and follow the uphill section of uneven, stoned-surface farm track to reach a metal gate on the left with the “Galashiels Paths” symbol next to it. Go through this gate on to the short downhill section on grass. Most of this surface is even but as it descends towards the tower it is a little uneven. Stop at the entrance to the drive leading to the Tower. (Option to visit the tower. Surface here is compacted mud and grass). Follow the tarmac road to the estate gates, turn left and follow the shared path back into town. Re-join the road at Bridge Street, turn into Syme Place and into Channel Street. The section passing the Tapestry is a pedestrian only zone – walk here and rejoin the road at Channel Street to return to the Hub.

This route takes in the stunning scenery towards Torwoodlee Tower. The main section of the ride is through the Torwoodlee Estate and along the shared path back into Galashiels

Leaving the Hub, the initial section is on the 20mph, A7 road heading out of Galashiels. Most of the route is on tarmac through the Torwoodlee Estate and along the Clovenfords Link shared path. Going through the Torwoodlee Estate, there is an uphill section of uneven, stoned-surface farm track and a short downhill section on grass. This is the permitted route by the landowners. Option is to walk this section. After following the shared tarmac path back into town, the route will re-join the road at Bridge Street, turn into Syme Place and into Channel Street.

This is an easy ride with stops along the way as needed. Our halfway stop will be at the drive to Torwoodlee Tower. The option here is to divert (on grass surface) to visit the Tower.

Helmets are recommended. Please consider wearing suncream and wearing (or bringing) an extra layer and a rainproof coat if the weather is looking changeable! Please make sure that your bike is in good working order and that you bring a spare inner tube with you. You may also want to bring water or juice for the ride. Refreshments will be available in Galashiels.

This is an easy ride, and we will ride at a pace suitable for everyone.
