Undulating ride between Cardiff and Newport

We start at the Cyncoed Methodist Church and cycle through the Eastern suburbs of Cardiff towards Old St Mellons and Marshfield. There is then an off road section on the Sustrans cycle route 88 towards Tredegar House. From there we take cycle route 4 to Bassleg and then climb up towards Draethan. We stop at the Maenllwyd Inn in Rudry for a well-earned lunch. We return home through the lanes towards Cefn Mably, Old St Mellons ending back in Cyncoed.

This is a pretty ride around the country lanes between Cardiff and Newport. There are a few hills, but the views of the Channel and Caerphilly Mountain are worth the climb.

We will be cycling on suburban roads, quiet country lanes, a short distance on B road and also through a building site! This ride is suitable for road, touring or mountain bikes, but just to warn you the building site near Pontprennau that we cycle through is muddy, so your bike will get dirty, so don’t bring your posh bike!

We'll be stopping at Maenllwyd Inn which is three quarters of the way around the ride and stopping after each big hill to re-group.

Please wear a helmet, bring bike lights and a snack to keep you going.
