Join us on this fantastic, scenic 15 mile ride up and around the stunning Cragg Vale and Luddendenfoot area in the Calderdale Valley. The route begins in Mytholmroyd, Halifax, at the local public car park (HX7 5LN) and then takes us up the B6138 Cragg Vale Road.
This famous road proudly claims to be the longest continual ascent in England climbing 968 ft in 5.5 miles. It is not steep, just a classic long power climb with an average gradient of just over 3%. When we get to the top we can have a well-earned ice cream whilst enjoying the view over Blackstone Edge Reservoir.
A long descent takes us back down Cragg Vale and along New Road to Craggies Cafe where the locally produced Pork Pies are to die for.
We then continue on New Road to Sowerby Village and then it’s a left turn onto Pinfold Lane which takes us on a winding, undulating country lane back to Mytholmroyd with fantastic views of Luddendenfoot and beyond.
Please bear in mind that we will be cycling in the magnificent Calder Valley so there will be a few hills to climb but the amazing views will be well worth the effort. This will be a very steady pace ride between 8-10 mph and we will take it easy up the hills.
If you are driving to the start point you can park for FREE in the long stay car park located next to Russell Deans Furniture Store (HX7 5LN). Failing that, there is plenty of on street parking nearby. Please don’t forget to bring some money and most importantly a bike lock for the café stop.
See you soon.
