Waggonway Highlights

This route is primarily on traffic free cycle paths with some short sections on quite residential streets.

It follows North Tyneside's former colliery waggonways and takes in 3 of the highest points in the borough at Cobalt Sundial and the pit heaps at Rising Sun and Weetslade Country Parks.

All Rides are designed entirely for cycles (including electric cycles). All Riders must ensure that their cycles are in a roadworthy condition, observe the rules of the Highway Code and follow the instructions of any Ride Leaders. The Organiser’s decision shall be final as to whether a cycle is of an appropriate type or condition to be used on Rides.

In compliance with British Cycling’s rules and regulations, helmets are compulsory for under-18s. Helmets are strongly recommended for adults but are not compulsory for all Rides.

All children aged between 5 and 15 years must be registered and accompanied by a parent or guardian. If a child under 16 attends with an adult who is not their parent or guardian, the person making the registration must have the prior written consent of the child’s legal parent or guardian.

Any children in attendance should be capable of cycling the distance comfortably.
