Starting point

Hertfordshire
WD18 8AD

This ride is for more experienced leisure riders who are able to cope with just over 2500 feet of climbing (762 metres) and average 11+ mph over a hilly route.

We will be meandering along predominately quiet country lanes, enjoying the scenery and avoiding the New Year's Eve traffic. We will take in a descent of the Ivinghoe Beacon and drop into The Valiant Trooper at Aldbury for lunch. After lunch, we will climb up to Wigginton, then cut back via Hog Lane through Ashley Green, then on to Flaunden, Sarratt, Loudwater and back to our start point at Morrisons, Watford.

Please note the start point is outside Morrisons front entrance, by the bike racks. Due to it being New Year's Eve, we would like to depart at 10am prompt, so bikes must be in good working order and riders ready to set off at 10am.

NB: For riders who would love this kind of challenge, but in all honesty it would be a push to complete this route at this kind of pace average, we would kindly ask you to wait until the Spring and Summer to sign on to do a route like this, when we have more daylight and could do it as a day ride.

For the safety of the riding group, any rider who comes along to do the ride and is struggling to stay with the group in the first two miles will be advised to head back. Should a rider be fatigued by Berkhamsted or Tring, we will advise you to take the train home for your own safety and wellbeing and for that of the group so we can complete the ride in the light.

We intend to complete the route within daylight, but it would be prudent to bring lights and high vis, as this also helps us to be seen in low visibility conditions.

Georgia Sear and Vikki Aitchison are your Ride Leaders looking forward to taking you on this New Year's Eve Special. :)
