This is a beautiful & truly 'Challenging Plus' route, with just over 700m of climbing in total. There are a whole range of climbs and descents, all on quiet country lanes - so you can gain practice and enjoy the scenery! : ) We are cutting through the Gorhambury Estate en route, before heading down the main A road to Redbourn for some practice riding on a busier road before our very well earned coffee break at The Hub at Redbourn. : ) We return via Gaddesden Lane, bypass Hemel town centre and climb back up into the Chilterns via Felden Lane, average gradient 7%, 10% in one section. : ) We then return to Watford over the rolling terrain. If you've done a hilly Challenging Ride of 25-30 miles, and need more, this one is for you, & we will be support you all the way as you step it up! : ) This route has been designed especially for those planning to take part in sportives, such as London to Brighton, for the first time this year. This will be a medium paced ride, aiming to average 9-10 mph over the hilly route. The mentality is to support riders over the distance, and allow people to practice taking on hill challenges without pressure - so the overall average may be slower than this on the day. This ride is about getting people around the route, rather than doing so at pace. A faster paced version of a similar route called Hub to Hub to Hub will be run on Sunday 9th April for those who want to take on this kind of distance and amount of climbing at a relatively faster pace (c. 12-13mph) with less stoppage time.
