Starting from the Watford Cycle Hub, this longer route goes through North Watford, Garston, Bricket Wood and How Wood to the Waffle House in St Albans where we can enjoy their delicious sweet and savoury waffles, drinks and snacks.

A mixture of on-road and offroad tarmac cycleways and shared paths. It is suitable for gravel / hybrid bikes. Road bikes with super slick tyres are not advised due to some uneven and slippery surfaces we will go through. MTBs and E-bikes are not suitable for this ride.

Most of this ride is on roads so you should be confident riding in a group at a slightly faster pace and longer distance than our usual Breeze rides. It is 26.5 miles in total with a couple of challenging hills, and will take approximately 2 hours to ride there, and the same on the way back.

If you have a fear of heights please note we do have to cross three busy roads via overbridges so if this a problem please don't book on as there is no safe crossing point at ground level. Contact the Ride Leader if you have any questions.

Please arrive by 9:30am so we can run through a riders register, bike checks and a route briefing before we set off. We are aiming to arrive at the Waffle House before the midday rush. The Waffle House is very popular so we usually have to queue a while to be seated.

Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear a helmet as the route goes through some bumpy terrain. Don't forget a drink and a snack, a rain jacket just in case, a spare inner tube or two, and a card for the cafe stop and in case of emergency. Also please bring a good bike lock with you for the café stop.

You must have lights on your bike, front and back since we are now into Autumn and it will be getting dark by the time we return to the Cycle Hub.

We will aim to be back by approx 3:00pm - 3:30pm.

Please check your bike is in good working order before the ride - especially that your brakes are working & your tyres are pumped and wear clothing suitable for the weather conditions and perhaps a backpack so you can put on or take off layers as needed.

Please note: we will be leaving promptly at 09:45am so please be there ready at 09:30am.

Watford Cycle Hub can check over your bike and pump up your tyres for you if you come in good time before the ride. If your bike might need a little more TLC or hasn't been ridden for a while, you can always bring it in for a free assessment. Watford Cycle Hub are a Not-For-Profit, Community Enterprise and promise to give you an honest price if your bike needs fixing, fine tuning or a full service.

I will send you my mobile number in advance of the ride if we haven't met before. Please send me a text if you need to cancel at short notice, or a problem arises which would make you late to the start point.

Thanks, and look forward to seeing you soon!
