This is basically a tour of West Lancashire. Starting in Mawdesley we head out towards the climb up Ashurst Beacon taking in the smaller climbs of Smithy Brow and Stoney Lane with a cruise down Parbold Hill along the way.

After a pleasant descent of Crow Lane and Roby Mill we will then tackle the climb up Appley Bridge before heading towards Rivington via Coppull and Adlington. We pass the Lower Barn and aim for our first well earned cafe stop at Curleys in Horwich after a long steady uphill climb and 36 miles behind us.

Then its out over the tops passing the Winter Hill transmitter and down into Belmont then through Brinscall, Wheelton and crossing the M61 and M6 before hitting Ulnes Walton and Croston.

Then we are off to Southport via Sollom and Banks, and after a cruise along Marine Drive we reach our second stop at the Nevill Street Chippy in the centre of Southport. Nearly 75 miles in at this point.

We begin our journey home via Birkdale Village and across the mosses to Halsall and then Burscough and on through Holmeswood and Rufford before finally returning home to our start point in Mawdesley.
Please ensure that you check that your bike is in a fit condition to complete this ride the night before - tyres, brakes, lights, drive chain etc. and have the basic tools required to sort out a puncture with a couple of spare tubes as well.
