This circular ride starts from Trek Bicycle at Fox Valley, Stocksbridge and heads out via Deepcar and along the banks of the River Don before climbing up to Thurgoland and into the attractive countryside beyond. We then continue to Hood Green and through more winding lanes before passing through Oxspring and up to Snowden Hill. Finally, we drop down the steep descent of Pea Royd Lane to return to Trek and the opportunity for refreshments.
Although there is some climbing in this ride, we’ll take it steady and stop for breathers whenever we need to. If you need to take it slow, that is fine – we never leave anyone behind.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PARTICIPANTS
We recommend that all participants wear a helmet. Please make sure you wear appropriate clothing for the weather.
As usual we do expect you to have ensured your bike is roadworthy and that you have carried out basic pre-ride checks; we recommend that you also carry at least one spare inner tube, a pump (CO2 inflators are also highly recommended). It is also a good idea to carry a spare chain link that matches your bike’s chain (e.g. 9, 10 or 11 speed). If you have a mechanical problem we will do our best to assist you and/or lend you an inner tube or repair kit if we can, but it is always best to be self-reliant. Don’t forget to bring money for refreshments and a mobile phone.
