Stockton and Darlington 199th anniversary ride

Join us as we follow the trackbed of the first passenger railway in the world, this is the Stockton to Darlington railway which will celebrate its 200th anniversary next September 2025. We start by going under Skerne bridge, the oldest working railway bridge in the world, and then we wind through industrial spaces before following the steam engines wheels to Middleton St.George. We stop to observe the remnant buildings at Fighting Cocks and view the new mural on the wall of the former station.

We return by looping round the village , following a path alongside the road to view the 1998 Brick Train at Morton Park on the edge of Darlington. From there we join the 1825 trackbed once more to come back to the Skerne Bridge car park. Afterwards there is the opportunity to visit the newly reopened and refurbished Hopetown museum at North Road Station

In order for the ride to leave promptly, please be punctual so we can carry out bike checks, etc. prior to us setting off. Please make sure your bike is in working condition and bring a spare tube to fit your tyres. Expect to be out for about 3.5 hours in total.

As always we can’t predict the weather so please dress suitably. You are better to be overdressed as you can always take layers off.

There is a parking charge at the car park but there is also free on street parking nearby.
