Furness Abbey

Not cycled for a while and looking for an easy way to get back in the saddle? Fancy a fun way to get your friends or kids riding? Our Easygoing rides are great for building confidence for all abilities and ages along relaxed, mostly traffic-free routes. They’re up to six miles long, with a gentle pace of around six miles an hour.

An almost entirely off-road ride, using a delightful greenway from suburban Barrow to the magnificent ruins of Furness Abbey. The route parallels the lively Mill Beck for much its length, offering opportunities to spot ducks, dragonflies and numerous other wetland-related wildlife. The Furness rail line also shares the same corridor, with occasional trains to wave at. At the half-way point, the Abbey Mill Cafe provides a good place for a rest, refreshment and a look at the nearby Abbey ruins.

This route has been British Cycling assessed as an accessible route, meaning it is suitable for the majority of adaptive bikes. The route will have no or low levels of traffic, there will be plenty of space and will have a good surface throughout. If you have any questions about using this route on an adaptive bike on this ride, please use the red 'Contact Us' button below or call 0161 274 2000 and ask for the Recreation team .
