This route starts in Elswick Park for a trip to the popular Pedalling Squares Cycle CafĂ©. It snakes through the park to head west on Elswick Road before taking a winding path through the recently refurbished Hodgkin Park and then picking up a bit of the old railway line Route 72 before crossing the Tyne on the Scotswood Bridge.  Great views to be had down river.  You turn away from the Tyne on the stunning  Derwent Walk that runs alongside the river Derwent.  The paths are in dappled shade and traffic free.  You roll past the Swalwell Cricket club and pick up more Derwent tracks to reach your super cafe stop. Pedalling Squares is a cyclist's dream with memorabilia, all the latest magazines, cycling on the telly,  kit for sale and a themed cyclist's menu rich in local produce.  The ride leaders often hang out here on a Sunday afternoon!  The cakes are all made locally and the coffee is second to none.  If you haven't been it's a must!  The route back retraces your tracks, with a bit of a hill to get off the quayside up to Elswick.
