Pooley Bridge

A gently undulating ride along the eastern shores of Lake Ullswater from Pooley Bridge to Howtown.

The route heads out through Pooley Bridge, past the village square with its tea shops, ice cream and souvenir shops, then along the lake shore road.  Initially you pass through farm land - look out for the alpacas- but as you head towards Howtown the scenery becomes more rugged as the hills forming the northern end of High Street (a roman road along the ridge) squeeze the road between the lake and their lower slopes.

You will pass the renowned Sharrow Bay Hotel before descending towards Howtown and the steamer pier.  The Howtown Hotel for tea and scones/biscuits is a great place to stop before retracing your steps back to Pooley Bridge.

Bike Hire is available from Lake District Cycling, call 07917 608566 for enquires.
