The South Tyne Trail is a great out and back flat route mostly on the old Haltwhistle - Alston railway line.  At 11 miles long on National Trust land this route is not to be missed with the old railway line providing a great view of the surrounding countryside without suffering the gradients that are apparent all around you.  However the star of the show is Lambley Viaduct which offers spectacular views across the landscape.  You will not regret making the journey to Haltwhisle!
