Skelmersdale

Circular tour exploring hidden parts of Skelmersdale and surrounding area.

Starting in the centre of Skelmersdale, you make your way up to Beacon Country Park using part of Skelmersdale's extensive network of traffic free cycle paths.  It’s quite a climb, but worth it for the view which extends to North Wales on a clear day.  From here you continue downhill on the Lancashire Cycleway onto the West Lancashire Plain.

There is chance to stop for refreshments at around halfway before resuming your tour on country roads past many reclaimed mining areas which are now crop filled fields.  The return part for the route is via the outskirts of Rainford to the more industrial part of the New Town, but uses the traffic free cycle paths through Tawd Vale to get you back to the finish.
