Heavy Woollen Wheelers

Heavy Woollen Wheelers are a cycling group who roll-out from The Leggers Inn in Dewsbury almost every Sunday morning throughout the year. REGARDLESS OF WHAT MAY BE STATED ELSEWHERE ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST BE AGED 18 OR ABOVE.

A typical Sunday ride will cover something like 20 miles through the area within a 10 mile radius of The Leggers Inn. We cover the 20 miles in approximately 2.5 hrs including various short breaks. As a guide the average riding speed is something in the region of 10 mph.

We try to keep mainly to the quieter roads or greenways, however most rides do encounter busier sections and road junctions at some point along the route. Although Dewsbury itself is quite a built-up area we don’t have to cycle too far to find pleasant routes in leafy rural areas. The routes we travel are not always suitable for those who are relatively new to cycling. All participants should have the ability and experience to complete the course but new riders who meet these requirements are welcome to join us.

Cyclists who ride with us on a reasonably regular basis can request membership of the group.

All members automatically receive advance notice when group rides are posted on the Let’s Ride website.

All bikes must be maintained in a safe and roadworthy condition. Please bring spare inner tube and appropriate tools. We do not ride in a competitive environment, and we never leave anyone behind. We believe that our cycling takes place in a relaxed atmosphere but on the strict understanding that all participants ride in a responsible manner at all times and do not act in any way that could put the health or safety of other riders in jeopardy. Ours are not guided rides and each participant remains responsible for their own actions or omissions at all times.
