We're a friendly group of people who like to cycle together without all of the commitment and fuss of competitive cycling and being part of a cycling club. Rides tend to be around Thatcham in the countryside on less busy roads, cycle paths and byeways. The distances are planned so that there is something for absolute beginners and those who want to cycle further/harder for fitness so anything from 10km - 50km with an average of around 25km for a typical ride. We don't usually ride offroad so any bike will do. The purpose of the group is to encourage fun and healthy activity in a social environment where you can meet new people. The emphasis is on safety, fun and cake! We nearly always end our rides at a cafe or have a mid-way cafe stop in longer rides. While many people are restricted to weekends, we also offer opportunities to cycle during the week to suit those who are not working, retired or shift workers and in the summer, we sometimes have shorter evening rides which often end up at a pub! Everyone with a sense of fun who wants to be sociable and enjoys the outdoors is welcome and our main ethos is being inclusive. You don't need previous experience nor do you need an expensive bike or any of the lycra gear. We do recommend that you ensure your bike is roadworthy and that you wear a helmet during the rides. Rides are planned by the group members; there is no committee so anyone can create a plan for a ride. We use online apps to design routes and then share them to those joining but anyone can do this by just listing the route in a post on the forum. If you're not confident with the apps, we'll help you learn how to use them. We don't have cycling coaches or instructors but we have some experienced members who train or coach elsewhere and are happy to share tips and answer questions. Come and join us! We're a small, friendly and inclusive group.
