RG22 4RA

Portsmouth Arms, Hatchwarren Lane, Basingstoke, Hampshire, RG22 4RA

This route is the Hatch Warren to Town Centre cycleway and is a mix of shared path, cycle lanes, and quiet roads from the Portsmouth Arms in to War Memorial Park. From there, we'll head to Crabtree Plantation and back through Old Basing and via Eastrop Park back into War Memorial Park then retrace our steps. Optional stop off at the Millstone Pub in Old Basing or back at the finish at the Portsmouth Arms! The route will be something like this we may shorten or lengthen depending on the group and terrain on the day. https://www.goskyride.com/SCG/ViewRouteBlank?routeID=2474 Hybrids would be best for this but you will be able to ride it on a basic mountain bike - road bikes are not ideal as some of the cycle path across Crabtree is gravelly and a bit rutted and there is a short unmade section (only about 20 meters). If you are willing to go slow on a road bike and manage the surfaces you are welcome to try it but it's not a good road bike route! Suit intermediates, will be steady pace. Slightly longer than the 'Potter to Old Basing' route and about same distance as Oakley run though a couple of little hills. A good route for learning some of the cycle paths of Basingstoke!
