Breeze to Harperley Lakeside Tearoom

The route climbs up past Frankland Farm, through Newton Hall, following Holmhill Lane to Chester le Street and Birtley. We then climb up the NCN7, past Stanley, where we drop down to the tearooms for lunch. After a refreshing break, we will climb back up to the cycle path, follow it along through Annfield Plain, then the ridge road to Burnhope, the top of Charlaw Bank where we can then enjoy a swoop downhill. One last climb up and over from Witton Gilbert will lead us back into Durham and back where we started.

A circular route from Durham via Birtley gradually climbing up to Harperley Tearooms and back via Maiden Law and Charlaw.

Mainly cycle paths and quiet roads, but there will be some busier roads through Chester le Street

We will have a break for lunch at Harperley Lakeside cafe and Nursery

Please dress appropriately for the weather, bring drinks and snacks. As always we recommend you wear a helmet and ensure your bike is in good working order before you leave home. Please also bring a spare inner tube that will fit your tyres.
