This is a second attempt at this route having cancelled last time because of very wet weather. The forecast so far is overcast but not so wet.
This is what I call a leisure ride. I’m not trying to break any records; I’ll stop if I see something I want to look at; there will be a coffee-and-cake stop; and with all rides, no-one gets left behind.
This ride will start from the main entrance to Cambuslang Park on Cairns Road. However, I appreciate that there is a lengthy part of the ride into and back from Glasgow. If you want to meet up at some point into the ride, I’m happy to do that. We drop down to the Clyde and take the Clyde Walkway to Auchenshuggle where we join the London Road cycle path into Glasgow Green. From there we take the National Cycle Path out to Bowling passing the Riverside Museum and going through Clydebank and on to the Forth & Clyde Canal. At Bowling there is a stop for coffee and cake (or more if you choose) at Paton’s Place. We then return along the canal through Clydebank and on to the River Kelvin where we follow the Kelvin Way back down to the Clyde, and then return to Cambuslang.
This is the route - https://ridewithgps.com/routes/44854960. (If you are not familiar with Ride with GPS, I suggest using the OSM Cycle or Outdoor map layout).
The route is predominantly on dedicated cycle paths but there are some road sections at start and finish that will require care. The current weather forecast is variable but I will review it nearer the time.
The full route is 37 miles and I generally aim for 10mph moving speed. Allowing for stops, I’d expect the ride to take 4½ hours but that will depend on the length of stay at the café.
