Starting point

Starting at the Cambuslang Park-and-Ride, we cross the Clyde and head west to London Road which we cross and head up to Tollcross and Carntyne. From there we take the major climb on the route to get up to Hogganfield Loch. We move on to Robroyston Park on quiet roads and shared paths, swing round Springburn Park and then head to Bishopbriggs. After the coffee stop, we go out to the Forth and Clyde Canal and ride to Stockingfield Bridge. From there we head for Ruchill Park and join the canal spur on the east side to take in the Claypits before reaching Speirs Wharf. We then cycle over Sighthill Bridge and on to Bridgeton, returning to Cambuslang along the cycle path on London Road. If the group prefers, we can return to Cambuslang following the longer but quieter route along the Clyde Walkway.

I describe this route as a leisure ride. It tries to avoid roads as much as possible. However, to get from the south side of Glasgow to the north (and back) almost inevitably involves using roads. We head out to Bishopbriggs taking in Hogganfield Loch and Robroyston Park. We then ride along the Forth and Clyde Canal to Stockingfield Bridge. From there we go to Ruchill Park, and on to the Spears Wharf Canal Spur, stopping off at the Claypits. We then cross Sighthill Bridge and ride down to Bridgeton where we head back to Cambuslang.

The route is classified as paved for most of its length. There will be some cycling on roads which have cycle lanes and some with none. To make this a circular route, it is necessary to use roads. Some have cycle lanes; most do not but generally they are reasonably quiet roads. The route along the canals is paths shared with pedestrians.

We will stop at the Cadder Parish Church Coffee Shop in Bishopbriggs for coffee and cake. We will probably be too early for cooked food. https://www.cadderchurch.org/coffeeshop.html

This is Scotland and as we all know, the weather can be ‘variable’. Please check the forecast before leaving and come prepared. If the weather looks to be really terrible, the ride is likely to be cancelled.

We never leave anyone behind
