This is described this as a leisure ride. It makes use of cycle paths and quiet roads but there are significant major road sections. It takes us out to Coatbridge and cross-country to Castlecary. From there we head back along the canal to Kirkintilloch where we head south on the Strathkelvin Railway Path, on to Hogganfield Loch and back to Cambuslang. Please be aware that we will be averaging about 10 – 11mph. This is not the route for you if you are looking for a faster road ride.

The outward route to Coatbridge uses NCN 75 for much of the route. We then take mainly minor roads to Castlecary where we join the Forth and Clyde Canal to Auchinstarry and Kirkintilloch. From there we join the Strathkelvin Railway Path to the A80 cycle path which we follow to Hogganfield Loch. From there we return to Cambuslang using mainly urban roads.

We will stop at the Boathouse at Auchinstarry marina. However, this is 30 miles into the ride so you may wish to take a snack as well. https://www.coastandcountrypubs.com/boathouse If anyone sees something they'd like to stop and look at, we'll stop.

This is Scotland and as we all know, the weather can be ‘variable’. Please check the forecast before leaving and come prepared. If the weather looks to be really terrible, the ride is likely to be cancelled.

First-timers are welcome but please check the anticipated cycle speed.
