The route follows the cycle path to Uddingston and Bothwell. From there we drop down to Strathclyde Country Park and cross the Clyde where we pick up the cycle path to Chatelherault. We follow the path through the park to the exit for the road to Quarter and on to Limekilnburn. We join the A723 for 0.7 mile to the turning for Chapelton. After passing through, we join the A726 for a quarter of a mile where we take minor roads until picking up a cycle path past Calderglen Park, into East Kilbride village on the main street, and back to Cambuslang on mainly cycle paths.

I describe this as a leisure ride. It makes use of cycle paths as much as possible but there are significant road sections. It takes us out to Chatelherault Country Park, going through Uddingston, Bothwell and Strathclyde Country Park. From there we head for Quarter, Chapelton, and on to East Kilbride, and then back to Cambuslang through Nerston Village, mostly on minor roads. The average speed on the move will be about 10 mph.

It will be mainly cycle paths, shared paths and minor roads. We'll be taking a path through Chatelherault Park which is mainly compact stone but a reasonably flat surface. There are two short sections on A roads.

We will stop at the café either in Chatelherault Park or at the Chapelton Golf centre, whichever the group prefers. Both are cycle friendly and have toilets. If anyone sees something they'd like to stop and look at, we'll stop.

This is Scotland and as we all know, the weather can be ‘variable’. Please check the forecast before leaving and come prepared. If the weather looks to be really terrible, the ride is likely to be cancelled.

First-timers are welcome but please check the anticipated cycle speed.
