Starting at Cambuslang Park and Ride, we head east along the Clyde to Newton on NCN 75. From there because of a road closure we follow the diversion to reconnect with NCN 75 on Blantyre Farm Road and on to Drumpellier on the Monklands canal. We take minor roads to Glenboig and then follow the Strathkelvin Railway path to Kirkintilloch. After the café stop, we take the NCN 754 canal towpath back to Stockingfield Bridge. From there we will chose either to head for Sighthill Bridge over the M8 and through Glasgow, or take the Kelvin Walkway down to the Clyde. Both routes will head to Bridgeton and take the protected cycle path along London Road to return to Cambuslang.
Please be aware that we will averaging about 10mph. This is not the route for you if you are looking for a faster road ride.

This is described this as a leisure ride. It makes use of cycle paths as much as possible but there are significant road sections. It takes us out to Kirkintilloch via Drumpellier and along the Strathkelvin Railway Path, and back along the canal and through Glasgow. The average speed on the move will be about 10 mph. You can view the route here https://ridewithgps.com/routes/50394843

The outward route to Drumpellier uses NCN 75 for much of the route. There is currently a diversion at Newton which goes along Hamilton Road to Blantyre. We then take minor roads to Glenboig to join the Strathkelvin Railway Path to Kirkintilloch. From there we follow the Forth and Clyde Canal back to Sighthill to cross the M8 and through Glasgow to Glasgow Green. If the group prefers, we will avoid the centre of Glasgow by taking the Kelvin Walkway (an extra mile).

There is a choice of cafés in Kirkintilloch and we’ll choose one that suits. If anyone sees something they'd like to stop and look at, we'll stop.

This is Scotland and as we all know, the weather can be ‘variable’. Please check the forecast before leaving and come prepared. If the weather looks to be really terrible, the ride is likely to be cancelled.

First-timers are welcome but please check the anticipated cycle speed.
