Causey Arch to Pedalling Squares and back
Join us for an adventure from Causey Arch (NE16 5EG) to Pedalling Squares where we'll have lunch before heading back. Our ride will be a mix of roads and old railway lines passing Burnopfield, Rowlands Gill and along the River Derwent to our lunch stop at Pedalling Squares, probably the north east’s most eclectic cycle cafe/repair shop. We'll come back a different way via Watergate Park and the Tanfield railway path. The route follows a maze of delightful hidden green space and is hilly and challenging in places. Indeed it is not for the feint hearted as there are not just a lot of uphills and some on winter/water damaged roads and rough railway paths but also a very steep on road downhill from Burnopfield to Rowlands Gill (Busty Bank). So, although only 14 miles it is a tough one. Check out the route including elevation profile.
https://www.strava.com/routes/12630012The ride will be best for hybrid or mountain bikes as the riding surfaces are varied.
Please come prepared with plenty of clothes including gloves, bring a spare inner tube for your tyres as well as some money for refreshments. Although it is difficult to predict how long we'll be out, expect to return to Causey Arch by 3pm.Please note that a search of the postcode NE16 5EQ will probably take you to the pub close by rather than where we will meet - the picnic site is on the west of the A6076 and is signposted.
