STOP PRESS: Please note this is a Cycllng UK Cyclists in Southwark Healthy Ride and not to be confused with LCC Southwark Healthy Rides. People who come on this ride do not necessarily have to be residents of the London Borough of Southwark. When is a Southwark Healthy Ride not a Southwark Healthy Ride? When it occurs on a fifth Saturday and when it starts and finishes in Greenwich. At first sight, it would appear that a 5th Saturday Healthy Ride would only be possible if a month had 35 days in it. However, on closer inspection, we find that this is not the case. Normally there are strict rules which govern where Healthy Rides can go, but on a fifth Saturday anything can happen. We can take the helm of a Southwark Healthy Ride and make it boldly go where no Healthy Ride has been before. We start this ride by cycling along Quietway 1 to the new CS5 which takes us from the Oval to Pimlico. We then cycle up to Hyde Park and cycle round the Paddington Basin, the Surrey Docks of the far North-West. We then follow the Grand Union Canal towpath and you will be amazed to discover that, even when you are cycling in the distant lands by the Westway, you are still cycling in our neighbouring borough Kensington and Chelsea. We then come back using some very nice out-of-the-way cycle paths which many Southwark cyclists will probably not know about. They take us through Holland Park where we will stop off for 45 mins for lunch. We return through the wonderful architecture of the Brompton Cemetery and then through the verdant grasslands of Battersea Park and then the roads surrounding the .the verdant grasslands of Battersea Park.
