Starting point

East Sussex
BN3 8PY

We will follow the route of the old railway line from Hove up to Devils Dyke. This is now a cycle path with tarmac at the start, then hard packed gravel.

You will need a bicycle for off-road trails for this ride - mountain bike, hybrid with knobbly tyres, gravel bike or cyclocross bike. You will also need very good lights, especially on the front, as we may be returning down the hill in the dark, and there is no lighting on the route.

The route from Hangleton to the Dyke is all uphill - you'll need to be used to climbing hills and using your gears! The reward, after some refreshments in the Devils Dyke pub, is freewheeling downhill all the way back home!

**********
Bring with you:
- a drink and snack to have midway (if COVID-19 restrictions means the pub isn't open)
- money for the pub (if COVID-19 restrictions allow)
- suitable clothing for the weather (it can still be changeable ethis time of year)
- a buff or similar to cover your nose and mouth (lots of insects in the country air!)
- spare inner tube for your bike (there will be a variety of different bikes on the ride, and no inner tube will fit them all, plus it's easier to change than inner tube then fix a puncture in the dark by the side of a trail)
- a sense of adventure
