Ambleside

Explore the quieter side of Lake Windermere and Beatrix Potter's old haunts and learn something of how the Lake District achieved its World Heritage Status.
You will visit Wray Castle where Beatrix had childhood holidays, ride along the traffic-free lake shore trail and climb up to Near Sawrey where Beatrix lived. The route continues passed Esthwaite Water to Hawkshead. Here there will be opportunities to explore the historic village and have refreshments before heading back on minor roads.
There are a few hills along the way but at a nice steady pace you will be rewarded with great views!
If you need to hire a bike you can book one at Ghyllside Cycles in Ambleside, close to the start of the ride, tel 015394 33592.
