Hyndburn

If you’re fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.

From our start point outside Mercer Hall Leisure Centre we will cycle down to the cycle path that runs along the route of the old railway line. This is a lovely quiet cycle path surrounded by grass & trees, with picnic benches, you'd never believe that you were so close to a busy town. Looking out for wildlife we'll ride at a relaxed pace before turning onto the canal towards Accrington. We'll see the swans, signets, plenty of ducks & if we're really lucky we could see the grey heron that lives on this stretch of the canal. Going through Rishton we cut down the Hyndburn Greenway and get a chance to feel the wind in our hair! Up the other side, past the Church and it's back onto the canal and on to Clayton Le Moors. Leaving the canal for the last time it's down the hill to Mercer Park where we can sit in the sunshine & let any children with us have a play on the swings & slides.  Suitably rested & refreshed we'll head down past Norden Brook and up the track past the allotments, stopping to look at the horses in the field & the imposing view of Clayton Hall surrounded by the trees. We'll take it really steady on this track & carry on back up to Great Harwood & Mercer Hall Leisure Centre stopping for an ice cream and a tea or coffee at Cafe Latte on Queen St next to the leisure centre. This is a lovely circular, virtually traffic free route that will be enjoyed by all the family.
