Modern Art Galleries for coffee, cake, company and a bit of culture!

An easygoing ride to visit the Modern Art Galleries in Edinburgh.

Beginning with a short loop around Wardie Bay and Granton Harbour for a spot of sea air we then turn inland, up to the Red Bridge and onward to join the Roseburn Path. Just beyond Craigleith we take a short, steep path up towards Ravelston Dykes. (We can get off and push our bikes here if necessary.)

After a short section on roads we'll turn left into the grounds of Modern Two from where there are great views from the terrace. We use the Zebra crossing to reach Modern One where we can view the outdoor sculptures before locking our bikes at the bike racks near the cafe where there is both indoor and outdoor seating.

There will be time for a short wander around the gallery and perhaps identify whether you might like to return for a more leisurely visit.

Leaving the gallery, we return on roads for a short distance to rejoin the Roseburn path and follow the paths all the way back to our start point at 5-ways.

This ride is predominantly on cycle and shared paths with a couple of short sections on quieter roads including one traffic-controlled junction.

Helmets are recommended. Bring money for the cafe/shop if you wish to purchase anything there, a bike lock if you have one, your usual bike kit in case of a mechanical - or a plan for getting home should you be unable to continue the ride for any reason (eg friend/taxi).
