WD3 3DJ

This 50.9 mile route involves 2,694 feet of climbs including a maximum gradient of 14.8% on the climb up Bison Hill in Whipsnade at 26 miles. We will aim for a pace of 11 mph averaged over the ride.

This ride will end at the Cha cafe in Cassiobury Park.

Should the ride be too challenging, is it possible to return by train. We will pass Hemel Hempstead station at 11 miles and near St Albans station at 40 miles.

The purpose of the ride is to reconnoitre the route. So there will be periodic map checking and discussion of areas of ride risk.

All participants are expected to bring:
• A bike in good working order with tyres pumped to the correct pressure. Please conduct a pre-ride safety check on your bike.
• A cycle helmet.
• Carry at least a spare inner tube, pump and tyre levers.
• Dress for the weather.
• A drink and energy snack.
• Lights if there is any chance of poor visibility.
