Starting point

Flintshire
CH8 9RP

On leaving the Gamfa Wen car park at Talacre beach we head for the Presthaven Sands Holiday Park via the hard surfaced woodland/marshland cycling/walking path. Having cycled through the caravan park we cycle through (yes, through!) the grounds of Prestatyn Golf Club (fore!) following NCN Route 5 till we access the promenade at the eastern end of Prestatyn holiday resort. We then follow the promenade all the way to Rhyl crossing the River Clwyd on the cycle friendly bridge and path near Kinmel Bay. Our route (mostly on cycle friendly, designated paths) then takes us through Colwyn Bay, the lovely harbour town of Rhos-on Sea, Penryhyn and on to the beautiful promenade at Llandudno where our outward journey ends and we take a break. Please note we will not be cycling up the Great Orme!

It is Summer so we are off to the seaside (again)! We will be riding mostly on the North Wales Coastal Path from Gamfa Wen Car Park at Talacre Beach to Llandudno. This is a long ride at just under 50 miles but is relatively flat as it hugs the North Wales coastline. Always a spectacular view from this well established cycling route where the weather is often the biggest challenge (particularly the wind).

The early sections of the ride are on well made cycle paths until we reach the hard surfaces of the coastal route. There have been some major sea defence rebuilding works which have taken place over the past few years but the route is now substantially clear of diversions allowing the ride to follow the coastal route un-interrupted.

We will take our main refreshment break in and around Llandudno. There are plenty of cafes, supermarkets, hot food concessions, cake/coffee shops and fish and chip shops etc. on offer so will decide on a convenient location on the day and somewhere to suit everyone's tastes. We will take a coffee break on our way out near Pensarn, Abergele and there will be the 'inevitable' ice cream stop on our return leg (Helen G.!)

All riders will be required to wear a helmet and carry spare inner tubes and the means to be able to repair a puncture (assistance will be provided if required). You will need money or cards to pay for all day parking at the Gamfa Wen car park at the start in Talacre Beach (approximately £4- £5 for the day). Don't forget to bring money for your refreshments and ice cream!

It is essential that everybody enjoys the ride which will be at an average pace of 9-11 mph but the average speed will be determined by the overall pace of the group. Please ensure that you can cope with a 45-50 mile bike ride at this pace. For those worried about the overall distance, don't be! There will be at least thee planned refreshment stops en-route and a lot of stops for the photo opportunities on the way (and there are lots of them!). Always remember though, we will never leave anyone behind! This is a stunning ride in any weather; hopefully we will be blessed with sunshine and no wind all the way!
