Starting from the Steel End Car Park this route takes you along the west side of Thirlmere Reservoir.

Along the 9 mile route there is plenty to see, do and explore. If you get chance to explore the shoreline you can see parts of the old village, where the roads where, some doorways into houses and you can even see the tree stumps that lined the streets.

On the route you will also see the most spectacular views of fantastic bubbling waterfalls among the woods and if you look over the reservoir you will see amazing views of Helvellyn, Lower Man, Nethermost Pike and High Crag.

Then there’s Thirlmere Reservoir itself with its mirror reflections, its mysteries and long-gone stories and villages that were flooded to make way for the Manchester Dam.
