Starting point

Hertfordshire
WD18 6LB

This route has just under 730 metres of climbing / 2,394 feet and will give you the opportunity to Tame the Bison, taking on the Bison Hill climb, which along with Whiteleaf, is the big climb on the Chilterns bucket list.

This is a great mini-epic and a good stepping stone for preparing for longer, more challenging sportives.

It’s still a leisure ride and we don’t draft, but we will ride in close formation for group safety. As it’s important for safety that the group can ride together, if you find you are majorly off-pace, we may ask you to take the train back at Hemel (12 miles), or St. Albans (42 miles)…Please respect the decisions of the Ride Leader Team, whose first responsibility is to run a safe ride.

We are also offering another ride, also starting at 9:30am from Watford Cycle Hub, paced to average 13+ mph over the same route:
https://www.letsride.co.uk/rides/watford-cycle-hub-taming-the-bison-pace-average-13-mph-2nd-sunday-faster-paced-ride
Please join this group if better for you.

We kindly ask that no one signs on for this 11-12 mph ride, unless they've done at least a 40 mile ride at this pace before.

We hope you have a great ride and enjoy the challenge of the route.

Please bring:

- Two spare inner tubes

- A debit card / money - for refreshments, or in case you need to catch a train / get a cab back home.

- The cycle snacks and electrolyte drinks you'll need to sustain you around this route

Bikes must be in full working order for this ride.

We are Not-For-Profit, do free bike assessments and should your bike need a tune up or a full service, we'll give you an honest price.
