A NEW ROUTE for spring 2026! Please note - there are a couple of sections of hard packed gravel on this route. Whilst hybrids, gravel, and mountain bikes will easily cope with these, very skinny-wheeled road bikes will struggle.

We had to cancel this ride in October 2025 due to Storm Amy, so this is a re-scheduled ride.

After cycling across the Great Field on the gravel paths, we set off North-Westwards on quiet country lanes through Bradford Peverell and Muckleford before another gravel stretch takes us into Maiden Newton. More scenic country lanes through Cattistock, then we arrive at Kingcombe, where the Dorset Wildlife Trust Visitor Centre sits. It's here that we will pause for drinks, food, and chat in the peaceful surroundings (plenty of space for our bikes, great grub and drinks, plus toilets and information about the wildlife in the Nature Reserve).
We then set off again, through Toller Porcorum before finding ourselves at Maiden Newton again. After tracing our steps through the gravel stretch of path, we take a slightly different route back into Dorchester by going through Charminster and passing the Sun Inn and water meadows as we approach the town.

This is one of our longer routes, only for more experienced cyclists used to cycling 20 miles or more. With the gravel stretches, it is not suitable for road bikes with skinny wheels - hybrids, gravel, and mountain bikes will cope fine though.
